Cross-Country Letter to Parents and Athletes

Welcome to the 2019 cross- country season!  We are looking forward to another great year!

A few things to know:

First, we have a new head coach, Frankie Ferreira.  Frankie will be in charge of practices on Monday- through Thursday (specified on monthly calendars,) as well as supervision on meet days.   Jamie Peters will be assisting this year, and will be helping on off campus trips (trail runs and meets days.)   We are looking forward to being able to practice on trails and hills.  In order to do so, we will be taking the bus (departing CVMS at 3:00; Returning to CVMS by 4:30-4:45) on each of the assigned Wednesdays:  9/4, 9/11, 9/18,  9/25, (10/2 and 10/9 – Kingsbury trips will return by 5:00) *Schedule attached.

Practices- Please keep monthly practice schedule for reference.   A September schedule will be sent home soon! Please be informed that the schedule will vary from week to week, and day to day to accommodate for meets and tutoring days.

Expectations- Please read through parent/student athlete agreement; sign and return.  Athletes are expected to be at every practice and to do their best efforts.  We do realize, though, that “things happen” as do illnesses, doctor appointments, as well as special circumstances.  Athletes are given a four miss allowance, meaning they may miss up to four practices without consequence.  (Please have your son/daughter show responsibility to the team by informing coaches ahead of time, when there will be a needed miss- if possible.)

Students who miss more than one practice during a week, WILL NOT be allowed to participate in the meet.

Also, any student athlete who is posing a safety hazard (to self or to the group) will receive consequence, and possibly dismissal. With a team of large numbers, runners are expected to be able to keep within reasonable distance from the group, in order to monitor and supervise all.

GRADES- Cross-country is an after school, extra-curricular activity.  We have stringent rules regarding eligibility.  In order to compete, student athletes may not have any F’s , or more than one D .

Transportation- Transportation is provided to all of the meets, and on return to CVMS.  Parents who wish to pick up from the meet, must sign out with the coach before leaving, and must have a student transportation release form on file. (handed out in beginning paper work.) Thank you.

Again, we are looking forward to starting a great 2019 season!
